East Tennessee Spay & Neuter

I was "on call" for the Carter County Humane Society when I received a call saying a golden retriever was tied up behind a building and the family had moved off and left him. When I went to investigate, I found the dog tied to a stake with no food or water. He had been left alone for almost a week. Occasionally, a neighbor would throw out an old biscuit for him to eat. He drank out of a mud puddle whenever there was rain to fill it. He had a doghouse but the chain tied to the stake was too short for him to reach the doghouse and get inside.

Realizing he had no chance for survival unless I removed him , I contacted the humane society and the local police department to remove him. The vet determined he was around two years old but had never been neutered. The humane society was able to pay half of the neutering for this abandoned dog if I could find a good home for him. I decided I would give Charlie a home and we were were together for the next ten years.

Charlie died January 24, 2012. I'm looking forward to seeing him just over The Rainbow Bridge where I will find him romping , eyesight and hearing restored and enjoying the puppyhood he missed.                                           --Jane Dunkelberg

You can say Brewster is my HEART. He is the reason I learned to love again, the reason I got into bulldog rescue, the reason I have met MOST of my BEST BUDDIES, including you.  He was my FIRST born child and THE REASON I was put on this earth.  He has opened my life to all walks of life and the ability to give back because I was so blessed to have been his WHOLE WORLD.           -Bonnie Rogers
