East Tennessee Spay & Neuter

Wags and Purrs to our Sponsors:

Big John's Closeouts: Owners Mike and Lynne Barnett are great supporters of ETSN and the Elizabethton Shelter, as well as many other community groups. They've got great prices on all kinds of building and remodeling supplies. Check them out, and support a terrific locally owned and operated business!

Camp Ruff-n-More: One of the coolest dog daycare and boarding places around. They've got a fantastic set-up and a solid reputation. So nice, you might want to stay there WITH your dog for vacation!

Carter County Bank: Carter County Bank and CEO Jim Holmes are great supporters of numerous community organizations, including ETSN and the New Shelter for Carter County. Their employees offer friendly, caring service and CCB is a model corporate citizen as well.

The Star: Nathan Goodwin is the publisher of the local newspaper of Elizabethton and Carter County, and a great supporter of ETSN and the New Shelter for Carter County. Besides helping us with media coverage, copying, and advertising, Nathan has upgraded the Pet of the Week feature to the Pet of the Day. Reporter Ashley Rader and photographer Brandon Hicks make sure those pets get highlighted every day. That means a lot to the shelter animals, because just about every pet that appears in the paper gets adopted!

The Elizabethton/Carter County Community Foundation Fund of the East Tennessee Foundation awarded ETSN a $1000 grant for 2010, and $2000 in 2011! The money provides vouchers to assist low-income families in getting their pets spayed or neutered. We are very grateful for their assistance, and in 2010 were able to help 77 Carter County pets and their families! 2011 promises to be even better!

The East Tennessee Foundation, which has been supporting communities for 25 years now, awarded ETSN a $2500 grant which will be used to support the expenses of running the transport as well as start a low-cost veterinary clinic for the low-income families of Carter County.

Other Friends of ETSN:

Elizabethton Animal Shelter, Elizabethton, TN and
Sullivan County Animal Shelter, Blountville, TN
Please check their Petfinder websites if you're looking for an animal to adopt, foster, or sponsor. These animals generally have 3 to 5 days before they are killed, especially during breeding season or extreme temperatures due to lack of space and very limited indoor facilities.

New Shelter for Carter County: You can help build a new shelter! Please check out this website for information on how you can help Carter County, TN replace their tiny, dilapidated shelter. The monthly meetings are held at the offices of another friend of ours: The Elizabethton Star on Sycamore Street in Elizabethton. The meetings are open to the public--please join us and show your support!

No Kill Advocacy Center: You can help make us a No Kill Nation by working to support shelter and animal control reform right in your home town. Nathan Winograd has some common sense ideas that should be introduced at EVERY shelter in the country, including ours. If places like Reno, NV and Charlottesville, VA can SAVE 95% of their shelter animals, SO CAN WE!

Alley Cat Allies: This national group works to improve the lives of feral cats through a series of programs. They provide education and assistance for anyone wishing to start a trap/spay/return program, as well as connections and help for humanely dealing with the feral cat population.

Humane Society of the U.S.: Another national education group, the HSUS has an extensive website with lots of information about their many programs to benefit animals. There are many links to other helpful sites, and you can download educational materials as well. They are currently offering a $5000 reward for information leading to the arrest of dog fighting rings.

The Joy of Aviation: This is the website of Bob Chieffo, a pilot and friend of ETSN. He helps rescue groups by flying rescued animals to their new homes. Two litters of Blackjack Animal Rescue puppies made the trip from Elizabethton, TN to New York state in January, 2010.

Smoky Mountains Bulldog Club: Our good friend and rescue transport driver Bonnie Rogers is a member of SMBD. They do a great job of rescuing, fostering, and rehoming English Bulldogs. If you're gaga over Bullies, check them out!

1&1 Internet Hosting: If you like our website and want an easy-to-use, inexpensive website of your own, check out 1&1. (Ours is just $14.95/mo., and if I can do it, ANYONE can!) Not only do they have great packages for beginners and experienced folks alike, but you can help us get ours for free when you sign up!
