East Tennessee Spay & Neuter

Why Spay and Neuter?

Wonder why we're such big advocates of spay and neuter?

Every day in the U.S., 70,000 dogs and cats are born. Of those, only 1 in 9 ever finds a home. In the Carter County, an average of 60-100 innocent dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens receive a lethal injection each week at the shelter. Their only crime is being born into a world where there aren't enough homes.

In the U.S., 4 MILLION cats and dogs are killed each year, at a cost of $1 Billion. It is far cheaper to spay-neuter than it is to collect, house, feed, and euthanize. It costs our shelter $100 to kill an animal, but it only costs $40-$60 to spay-neuter. Which would you rather support? SPAY-NEUTER WORKS!!

Look at these numbers:

1 unspayed female dog x 4 pups per litter
2 litters per year x 5 years
Each pup repeats this rate
Within 5 years = 37,000 puppies!

1 unspayed female cat x 4 kittens per litter
3 litters per year x 5 years
Each kitten repeats this rate
Within 6 years = 250,000 kittens!

NOTE: One unaltered male dog or cat can father an almost unlimited number of litters per year...
